About the Department
Industrial Design Engineering; Industrial product design engineering, which develops functional, aesthetic, ergonomic and futuristic solutions to existing needs and problems at the point of meeting social requirements, is an art-design-engineering intersection that produces innovative solutions by revealing new needs with social analysis.
Design education, which includes inputs from many fields such as ergonomics, anatomy, materials, production, sociology, psychology, function and aesthetics, is expressed as an interdisciplinary program.
The main objective of ISTUN Department of Industrial Design Engineering is to be a service provider with high benefit value on a social scale and to train students as competent professionals in their fields.
In this way, the most fundamental principles of our department and design disciplines are to provide students with mechanical and engineering competencies, artistic sensitivity and creativity, self-confidence and communication skills, to instill in them the ability to be correct, ethical and good individuals, and to provide them with sufficient intellectual equipment and practical competence against situations that may be encountered both in daily and professional life.
Academic Facilities
In addition to the basic engineering courses, the education to be given in our department includes courses on basic drawing techniques, design, art history and methods, artist-craftsman-designer behavior patterns and thought systems for creativity. Apart from the compulsory courses, our students can also take technical elective courses in order to increase their knowledge and orientation to different fields in the industry. The courses are supported by workshops and laboratories equipped with modern educational equipment such as three-dimensional printers and scanning technologies as well as equipment suitable for traditional manufacturing methods, and an education combined with the knowledge of experience from the past and technology going to the future is offered. In addition to the theoretical education created by taking into account the needs of the sector and industry, our students will graduate ready for the sector with the practical training they receive through project courses and academic-industry collaborations as the most basic provider of design disciplines.

Industrial design engineering, as an intersection of design and engineering, plays an active role in the existence of all kinds of commodities provided by the industry within the social reality and covers the whole process from the emergence as an idea to the moment of sale. In this context, with the title of "Industrial Design Engineer", graduates of the department have the opportunity to work in many fields such as defense industry, machinery manufacturing industry, furniture industry, mold industry, casting industry, biomedical and medical material production industry, automotive industry, glass and ceramic industry, vehicle (automotive, aircraft, ship) industry, etc. Graduates of the department can also work as academicians in universities while continuing their master's and doctoral studies.
